I honestly don’t remember the last time I baked a pie, I think it was when I still lived at home. Possibly even when I was in high school, yikes, that’s so long ago. I made a quiche last winter, but I don’t think that counts as pie. At least Dean Winchester wouldn’t think so. Whenever I think of pie I just imagine Dean and Supernatural. I love to bake and I haven’t really baked much in the last couple years, aside from macarons and holiday baking. So I thought I would make a pie, with a Supernatural theme. Check out this Devil’s Trap Whisky Apple Pie with Whisky Caramel Sauce.
For the filling I used this recipe from Audrey’s Apron Best Apple Pie Ever, the only change I made was instead of water I added whiskey (Crown Royal), and I didn’t add all the apples I put the rest in the freezer, my pie plate was a little short. The crust I used Five Heart Home’s Fool Proof Flaky Butter Crust, I didn’t change anything for the crust and it worked out perfectly. Wait, I guess the one thing I did change is that I didn’t use a food processor. I did this all by hand, and it turned out fine. I let the cool air from outside keep everything in the kitchen cold as I did this to keep the butter from melting.
To make the devil’s pie trap design, I followed this picture here. I just took a pizza cutter and sliced thin strips and assembled the best that I could. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially since I’m not a regular pie baker. Try this design on any pie!
Top with this Whisky Caramel Sauce by Mountain Mama Cooks, it’s so good! I used Crown Royal and it turned out perfect. I’ve never actually succeeded at making caramel sauce and I was impressed. The instructions helped a lot.
Are you planning on making any pies this fall? Tag me if you made a ‘Supernatural’ themed pie!
