I have been absent for the past few months, and it took something like this to get me out of my funk and write something. Completely obsessed with Stranger Things, and I completely underestimated the series when I first started it. There’s something different about that 80’s era of horror/thriller movies that feels more real and more interesting. Maybe that comes from my love for Buffy, and watching a lot of horror movies in the 90’s. Could also be because I just love that classic campy feel. I loved the Scream series, but I could not get through the first 10 minutes of the series on Netflix. I could give it another shot I thought, but I think I would just be watching it out of nostalgia.
Stranger Things has to be on my list of current favorite shows, and it sucks I binged too hard and have to wait a whole year to get season 2. I’ve already re-watched it, a couple times.
Now, if you haven’t watched the first season of hopefully more seasons of Stranger Things, I recommend you stop reading and head straight for Netflix. Spoilers will be ahead as I discuss my little theories and thoughts for the show.
I used to think Hopper knew Eleven was alive, but now I’m not so sure. I think his little food drop gift was a hope that she was alive, and he could somehow find her. Since he’s obviously working with the lab doing something with them, he might know what they want to do with her when they find her. He also must know if she gets hungry enough, she will make an appearance like she has done in the past, and would prefer to prevent that from happening.
I think she’s afraid to return to the boys after everything that has happened, afraid to cause any more bad things, while running from people that could hurt her.
Here’s hoping she’s just camped out at Castle Byers eating Eggos and Mike and the boys find her, just when she’s ready to be found. Yet, it will obviously be more complicated than that when we get to see her again. More flipping vans type of complicated.
These characters completely snuck up on me. I thought Nancy was going to be that stereotype girl, like Barb predicted would sleep with Steve and then turn into a different person. Except she did, her friend disappeared and she jumped into action to find her, regardless of the cost. I don’t think all of the characters on the show would go inside a strange tree trunk to another world if they weren’t really driven by something. Steve became more of a likeable character near the end, instead of that popular jock that’s a popular douchebag. Then theres Johnathan, and I completely feel like I was him in high school. That loner that doesn’t like most people and was into photography and listened to different music. I really hope these three stick together to hunt something again next season. That last episode felt to really set up that teamwork dynamic.
That last scene brings up so many questions. That slug he coughed up, has to be one of the babies that strange snake planted inside of him, and are growing and crawling out of him as they are able to. I think not only will these grow in the sewers, something will be coming to look for them, and Will since he is the host. That much exposure to a toxic environment must take a while to completely clean your body of it, especially when it’s an unfamiliar toxin. I wonder how long this will go on before someone notices this secret he has. I’m sure it will be one of his best friends, he can’t hide something like that forever.
I love how they worked in foreshadowing in with the Dungeons and Dragons games. Just like the first game in the first episode, the Demogorgon got Will. At the end of this one, they beat the Thessalhydra. Yet, like the fans after they defeated the monster, we were left with hanging questions since it was only eight hours.
So who is the lost knight? I’m leaning towards Eleven since she saved them all, their knight in shinning armor before disappearing before them. The proud princess, could be referring to Nancy since she didn’t get a happy ending to this story since she didn’t end up finding Barb, plus her mixed feeling between Steve and Jonathan. Then the weird flowers in the cave, the hatched eggs in the Upside-Down, the only thing I can think about in the Upside-Down since we didn’t much movement there, what were these eggs from?
What are your theories for season 2? What did you think of the show so far?
